Isaiah 58:5 “Is it a fast that I have chosen, A day for a man to afflict his soul?
Is it to bow down his head like a bulrush, And to spread out sackcloth and ashes?
Would you call this a fast, And an acceptable day to the LORD?”
The people of God had chosen to outwardly appear humble and broken before God. Instead of fasting to draw near to God and discover God’s will to change the heart of the nation, people simply afflicted themselves before men to somehow prove they were holy and righteous.
Let us agree in prayer today that God’s people in America will do as Jesus taught – clean up and look normal outwardly and set themselves apart for God inwardly where only God can see and respond to our heart set apart for God’s will and desire for our land.
